Fall and the Turn
As I pen this devotion, the word “turn” is in my head. A little before my teen age years, there was a popular pop song by the Byrds called “Turn, Turn, Turn”. The lyrics went like this; “To everything turn, turn, turn. There is a season turn, turn, turn and a time to every purpose. A time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant, a time to reap, a time to kill, a time to heal (chorus) A time to build up, a time to break down, a time to dance, a time to mourn, a time to cast away stones (chorus) a time to love, a time to hate, a time for war, a time for peace, a time you may embrace (chorus) a time to gain, a time to lose, a time to rain, a time to sow, a time for love, a time for hate, a time for peace, I swear it’s not too late”. This 60’s song is for the most part taken right out of Ecclesiastes chapter 3. Life is indeed filled with many turns. Every fall of the year, I am reminded that life can turn on a dime. It can take a turn for the worse, and it can take a turn for the better. As I watch the leaves turn in preparation for winter, I turn my attention to the Sovereign God who never changes or turns, the God who is the same yesterday, today and forever. There is great benefit in being connected to the God who is our Rock, steady, stable and sturdy. In a time of massive change and upheaval, in a time of rapid and often times unprecedented change, in a time of sudden and unpredictable change, it’s both comforting and empowering to know the God who is not only present today but is also waiting in the future. Change is inevitable. Just look around, but serving a God who never changes reminds us that He holds us in the palm of His hand and whatever change comes, the God who never changes is right there with us. So let it turn, turn, turn. God’s got this and He has you too.
