Desperation
Life has many challenges, highs and lows. It’s a part of the life package we were
born into. All of us face times of hardship and enjoy times of God’s extreme
goodness, whether we care to acknowledge it or not. Desperation as we define it
usually tends to slant toward the negative, the painful, circumstances brought on
by acts of regret personally committed or by others. I wonder if there is another
definition of desperation we could consider. One that is fueled by a righteous
hunger to know God, hear His voice, connect with His power and experience the
supernatural. Is it possible to become desperate for God without a crisis
triggering it? I believe that it is, and though life events can make us desperate for
God’s presence and for His help for sure, my thought is, let’s get desperate for
God where the chief catalyst and motivation is to walk with God in the cool of the
day. Looking back to the beginning which is where we’re headed, back to Eden,
the first couple would fellowship with God without restraint. Genesis 3 infers it
was in the cool of the day. Let’s long for that fellowship, even more than that, let’s
get desperate in a good way, not just to know more about God but to know Him in
the beauty of His holiness. “Lord, make us desperate for you!”
