Eyes of the Spirit
How we live our life is based upon how we view life. The Bible is clear and our own experience as Christians confirm that we have 2 sets of eyes. One set is our natural eyes. Our physical eyes see the world and the happenings there of from a strictly human viewpoint based upon our natural senses. Senses that are vulnerable to and often driven by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, (see 1 John 2). None of us are immune. This is a struggle that we all face on a daily basis. When we are born again, we are given a new set of eyes called the eyes of the spirit. We then begin to see things not just the way they are naturally but also spiritually. Proverbs 28:19 says that …without a vision, the people perish.” The Holy Scriptures not only feed us spiritually and strengthen our faith; they also enhance our spiritual vision. As we read, meditate on and declare God’s word, we begin to see things from heaven’s view. The mind of Christ takes the forefront and we begin to see beyond what our natural eyes are taking in. Paul in 2 Corinthians 4 says something fascinating and encouraging; 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Amen!
